After completing his Diploma at Natal Technicon, Charlie began his working career in community pharmacy at Peoples Pharmacy in Durban as an intern, before progressing to managing a community pharmacy and undertaking post-graduate studies in business management. During these post graduate studies, Charlie shifted his focus to pharmaceutical manufacturing, wholesaling and marketing before returning to community pharmacy. During these career changing moves Charlie became focused on customer service within the pharmaceutical industry, culminating in a dissertation aimed at the “Determination and Evaluation of the Services offered by Pharmaceutical Wholesalers to Community Pharmacists and Dispensing Doctors in the greater Transvaal area” (1995). For the last 23 years Charlie has owned Melrose Park Pharmacy and Natural Remedies, which provides a “one- stop” health centre for the local community, which includes a general practitioner, chiropractor, homeopathic doctor, dietician and beautician. In 1966 he was a finalist in the Boehringer’s Pharmacist of the Year competition.

 

Charlie has also operated a Mobile Pharmacy which serviced the needs of spectators at both the Wanderers and Centurion cricket stadiums during local and international matches. Charlie has also qualified as a Primary Care Drug Therapist (PCDT), with a Section 22a (15) permit, and as a Hearing Aid Acoustician. Charlie is an elected Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA)and continues to serve as an active member on both the National Executive Committee of the PSSA and local Southern Gauteng Branch of the PSSA. He has also served on the National Executive of the South African Association of Community Pharmacists (SAACP formerly CPS) and continues to serve on the local Southern Gauteng Branch of SAACP. Charlie has also served as an elected member of the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) from 2009 to 2013, and was re-elected in 2014 to serve until 2018. During this period with the SAPC, Charlie has served on the Practice Committee, the Committee of Preliminary Investigation and Committee of Informal Inquiry. Outside of Pharmacy, Charlie is a total sports enthusiast and collector of sporting memorabilia.
